Both my boys love art, but especially my youngest. Art is great for boosting creativity and developing fine motor skills. Our house became overwhelmed with art supplies spread out everywhere. We had crayons, coloring pencils, markers, play-doh, and coloring books in closets, cabinets, and on tables. It was overwhelming. I wanted to create a space where art could flourish and still be organized. Keeping it accessible to our kids was key. Below are the steps I took to create a cute space that my boys love.

  1. Find a dedicated space in your home that is separate and your kids can call their own. It doesn't have to be big and can even be in a corner of a public space like a den or eat-in kitchen.

  2. Find a table that is big enough to spread out. Here is the one I purchased and I especially love it because it is bigger than a lot of the kid-size tables with adjustable height, so it will grow with my kids.

  3. Organize all your art supplies in a cart. I love to organize and being a parent, sometimes it is tough to keep things organized. This cart is great and has little cubbies for all your supplies with bigger shelves for coloring books and magazines. I like to put crayons, markers, colored pencils, dot markers, scissors, glue sticks, play-doh, and stickers in the top section each in their own cup. Then I place coloring books and plain paper on the next shelf. Finally, on the bottom shelf, I have magazines. Magazines work great for making collages. If you don't currently subscribe to any magazines, most cities have free magazines that are available at local businesses.

  4. The finishing touch is a way to display the beautiful masterpieces. I love these frames because they are easy to change out and keep the wall looking clean and uncluttered.

The main thing is to let your imagination flow. Art stimulates the mind and body and is a great way to help your child healthily express their emotions. My two boys love bringing their folders home from daycare to show me their art projects from the week. What are some of your favorite art projects your kids have done? Share in the comments below.
