I love this time of year. It always feels like there is something to do. It is is the season of holidays and while Christmas tends to get center stage, I find Thanksgiving to be the calmest and most family-oriented. We love to host and get the kids involved. Before the complete Christmas take-over, I would love to chare some of our favorite traditions.

I understand the significance of building lasting family traditions, especially during holidays like Thanksgiving. In this blog post, we'll explore meaningful and enriching Thanksgiving traditions that not only celebrate the spirit of gratitude but also create lasting memories with your children.

1. **Gratitude Jar:**

Encourage your kids to express gratitude by creating a family gratitude jar. Throughout the month of November, have each family member write down something they're thankful for on a colorful slip of paper and place it in the jar. On Thanksgiving Day, take turns reading these notes aloud, fostering a sense of appreciation and connection. If your children can't write yet, encourage them to draw pictures instead. Here is a kit that has pre-cut leaves to record your thanks.

2. **Cooking Together:**

Involve your children in the kitchen as you prepare the Thanksgiving meal. Whether it's stirring the batter, setting the table, or decorating cookies, cooking together instills a sense of teamwork and creates cherished moments.

3. **Thanksgiving Tree:**

Craft a Thanksgiving tree using construction paper and have your kids cut out leaves. Each day leading up to Thanksgiving, have them write something they're thankful for on a leaf and hang it on the tree. This visual representation of gratitude can serve as a beautiful centerpiece for your holiday celebrations. Here is a set that is perfect for little hands.

4. **Acts of Kindness:**

Teach your children the importance of giving back by incorporating acts of kindness into your Thanksgiving traditions. This could include volunteering at a local charity, donating canned goods, or simply performing small acts of kindness for neighbors and friends.

5. **Family Thankful Circle:**

Before the meal, gather your family in a circle and take turns expressing what you're thankful for. This simple yet powerful tradition helps everyone pause and reflect on the positive aspects of their lives, reinforcing the spirit of gratitude.

By weaving these Thanksgiving traditions into your family's celebrations, you not only create a sense of togetherness but also instill the values of gratitude and kindness in your children. These traditions will not only make Thanksgiving memorable but also contribute to the development of compassionate and thankful individuals.
