The holiday season is upon us. That typically means lots of travel. Whether by plane, train, or automobile, traveling with toddlers takes planning. It can be stressful, especially with the added holiday pressure to keep kids happy during the busy season. There is a toy that has made travel so much easier and stood the test of time as my kids have gotten older. Squigz! Found here.

We were first introduced to Squigz when my youngest son, the hurricane, was in physical therapy. Both my boys were slow to walk. I have heard this is normal in boys. We didn't push the issue with my oldest and he was 18 months before he took his first step. When the hurricane followed the same pattern, we decided some physical therapy might help him. We had the most wonderful physical therapy team that catered to kids and it was a wonderful experience. One of the exercises included putting Squigz on a mirror and having the hurricane practice standing up and balancing. He giggled through the challenge and fell in love with them. We ended up buying them for Christmas that year and have bought several add-on sets since. Both boys still play with them today. Longevity is one of the most important features of a toy for me. With 2 boys, toys don't last long in our household. They either get broken or the boys stop playing with them and they are pushed to the back of the toy bin. Not Squigz! They have lasted.
Several things make this toy a great travel companion. They are small and can fit in a purse, diaper bag, kids backpack, or even a seat back storage center like this. They stick to the window or each other allowing imagination to run wild. They also make whirly Squigz found here. These are my son's favorite. I have to admit, they are quite mesmerizing. If I am being honest, they are my favorite too. If you are short on windows, they will also stick to almost any hard surface. If you want to start up the giggles, stick a Squigz on your forehead.
I also throw a few in my purse when we go to restaurants or need to stay in hotels. The small size, allows you to bring them anywhere. They stick to tables which allows your child to build towers giving screen-free entertainment at a restaurant. They also make little cups found here that are great for snacks. Since it sticks to the table, there's no risk of them launching it across the restaurant as a projectile. It is also great in hotels when space is limited to stick a few on the windows to keep the fun rolling.
The size, durability, and entertainment value make Squigz the toy you need to have to survive the holidays with little ones. What is your survival tip for holiday travel?
